Overview

I designed the UX and UI for the Opticharge app, which helps residential users optimise their electric vehicle (EV) charge times and utilize solar energy for cost savings. The goal was to create a user-friendly, intuitive app that allows homeowners to manage their EV charging efficiently, reducing energy costs by leveraging renewable energy sources like solar power.

Challenges

The key challenge was designing a solution that simplifies the management of EV charging schedules while integrating the advanced feature of solar energy optimisation. The interface needed to be accessible to users with varying levels of technical understanding, ensuring that they could easily set up, monitor, and adjust their charging preferences without being overwhelmed by complexity.

Design Process

I created a clear and intuitive dashboard where users could view and manage their charging schedules, track energy usage, and optimize charge times based on solar energy availability. Through user research and iterative wireframes, I focused on simplifying the experience while maintaining the functionality to allow users to take full advantage of solar power. Prototyping and user testing helped refine the app’s usability, and custom icons were used to provide a visual hierarchy that made navigation simple and efficient.
